Facial Tattoos

Facial tattoos are definitely for the daring.  When you decide to get a facial tattoo, you should know that the tattoo is the first thing most people will notice about you.  This can be both a positive and negative effect.  On the positive side it can show how passionate and daring you are.  On the negative side it can prevent you from certain forms of employment.  This is definitely a decision that you should take time to consider. Tattoos on the face are often harder to have removed because it can lead to permanent scarring.

Do They Hurt?

In a word, yes.  There is not much fat between your skin and bone on the facial region.  Tattoos in these types of location often rate high on the pain scale.  You should also consider healing time.  The tattoo may be red and swollen until it is completely healed.  They may also appear scabby and dry until fully healed.  Everyone has a different pain threshold, but this is a tattoo that will most likely be painful for everyone.

Facial tattoos are often broken up into three categories:  cosmetic, skull, and standard.

Cosmetic Tattoos

Some examples of cosmetic facial tattoos include having your eyebrows darkened, permanent eye color, and permanent lip color.  These types of tattoos are often very expensive and done in the office of a cosmetic surgeon.  When performed by a cosmetic surgeon numbing medication is used to make the process more comfortable.  Directly after cosmetic tattoos are received they may appear swollen and a darker color, but the color should fade.

Skull Tattoos

Some people opt to shave their head and have tattoos applied there.  Names, tribal tattoo designs, and skull tattoos are all common here.  Some also opt to have tattoos placed behind the ear.  Many times these are small delicate designs that convey a special message to the person wearing it.

Standard Tattoos

There are many options within this category.  You may want to opt for a small design inked near the hair line, or near the temple.  Small star tattoos are a commonly found here.  Some go all out and have the entire face tattooed.  Large tattoos on the face are not commonly accepted in typical work environments, and can be a distraction.  It is totally a personal preference.

Facial tattoos that are properly placed and well thought out can be beautiful.  Make sure that you are totally sure about this tattoo before beginning the process.  Once you start, it will be there forever.
