Celtic Tattoos

Celtic tattoos are gaining in popularity all the time. This could be because Celtic tattoos are a very attractive design and have a long running history that have a great amount of symbolism to many people.  Many of the people that settled in America came from the region of the world where the Celtic designs originated, England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales, and that fact has a lot to do with their popularity.  There are several distinct Celtic tattoo designs that we will talk about.

The Celtic knot tattoo as the name says is a series of ropes depicted forming an intricate and beautiful design, one of the visual effects of the design is that the rope has no beginning or end and represents eternal devotion much as a wedding band with its’ unbroken circle of gold.  The never-ending design of the rope is also said to represent the eternal cycles of nature.  There is also a Celtic cross tattoo that uses the same weaving rope design as the Celtic knot, but in this instance, it outlines a Christian cross.  This tattoo design has religious symbolism to many people and is used by people to represent their Christian beliefs and their ethnic background as well.

There is another Celtic tattoo design that has deep roots in the history of Ireland it is called the claddagh.  In Irish tradition this design it typically a symbol of ones wish to wed another as it has two hands holding a heart and covered with a crown.  Over time, it has grown in popularity as a tattoo design because of its classic representation of never-ending love, loyalty, and devotion.  All Celtic designs whether tattoos or other art are deeply rooted in nature and the love of all things magical and natural.  The druids are a Celtic people and in legend, Merlin who was a druid magician of great power wielded much influence over King Arthur.

The next design is self-explanatory, it is the tree of life.  As with the other Celtic tattoo designs, it also uses the interwoven rope design that is used to form the branches around a central trunk.  Also as with the other designs, there is no beginning or end to the rope.  It also represents the eternal cycles of life and nature and the natural balance of the world.  If you choose to get a tattoo, a Celtic design would be a good choice for most people since they are beautiful designs and can hold many different meanings for many different people. Adding other pieces from other tattoos to this design is hugely popular as you will see people adding tribal tattoos and parts of angel tattoos to their celtic design.
